Karumba Tourist Attraction – Boating
Karumba is a town in the Gulf Country region of Queensland, Australia, 71 kilometres (44 mi) by road from Normanton and 2, 159 kilometres (1, 342 mi) from the state capital, Brisbane. Most people visit Karumba for the great fishing, spectacular sunsets and awesome Morning Glory Cloud formations. The towns’ economy relies on the fishing industry (prawns, crabs and fish), zinc and cattle export and the thousands or tourists that visit each year. The settlement was previously known as Norman Mouth and Kimberely.[3] Karumba was used by the local aborigines, to describe the place. This name was officially used for the township by the 1880s.
Karumba forms part of Carpentaria Shire Council. At the 2006 census, Karumba had a population of 518.
